your songs are registered with a pro (bmi or ascap)?
why it matters: a pro pays songwriters for public performances of their songs. each writer registers their own share with their own society, and the writer ipi number is how a play gets matched to you.
how: join bmi or ascap as a songwriter, then register every song you wrote, with the co-writers and their splits. start here

your songs are registered with the mlc?
why it matters: the mlc is the blanket collector of us streaming and download mechanical royalties for songwriters and publishers. a song it cannot match to a registered work is not paid to you.
how: make an account in the mlc portal and register your works (one at a time or by bulk upload). start here

you are registered with soundexchange?
why it matters: soundexchange pays the featured artist and the owner of the recording for non-interactive digital radio (siriusxm, pandora radio, web radio), never for on-demand spotify or apple plays. registering is free.
how: register as the featured artist, under the artist name the recordings are credited to. if you own your masters, register as the rights owner too. start here

you have claimed spotify for artists?
why it matters: pitching a song to spotify's editors is done in spotify for artists. spotify: "if you pitch an unreleased song at least 7 days before release, we'll add it to your followers' release radar playlists."
how: request access to your profile and add a link to your website or socials to verify. spotify reviews it by hand, which can take a few days. start here

you have a youtube official artist channel?
why it matters: an official artist channel brings your auto-made topic channel and your own channel together into one channel you control. it needs at least one release sent out by a distributor, and the label or distributor usually makes the request.
how: ask your distributor or label to request it, or use youtube's official artist channel page. start here

why it matters: amp is pandora's free artist tool. it is where you set a featured track and record an artist audio message (a short promo clip).
how: sign in at amp.pandora.com and claim your artist page. start here

you have claimed amazon music for artists?
why it matters: on a claimed profile the owner or admin can submit one track per new release to amazon's editors. amazon also asks for music to be delivered at least 7 days before release so alexa can learn it.
how: claim your profile in the amazon music for artists app or site. amazon says connecting your socials in the claim flow is the fastest way. start here
